The Downsman Bowls Club News story

Success at Steyning more than made up for our loss the previous day at Wonersh

10 May 2026

Match Report - 10 May 2026, The Downsman beat Steyning 71-59

A great result played in damp and very very cold conditions but we managed to play all 18 ends; suffice to say the hot tea and coffee at the ends of the game was very well received. This not a fixture, historically, that we win, so well done all. It was a close game throughout and the result could be be predicted right until the end, with Dave F's rink winning the last 5 ends to lose by just 1, Ian U's rink scoring a 3 on the last end to draw (won't mention the 6 we dropped on the 17th end!), Dave W's rink scoring 9 on the last 3 ends to win by 1 ad of course Derick O's rink for winning their match.

Match Report - 09 May 2026, The Downsman lost to Wonersh 51-79

Always a pleasure playing Wonersh and it was good to see their brand new clubhouse which is excellent and will act as a local community hub.We all found the green a little tricky in that is was very speedy and pretty straight unless you were slightly narrow and then you saw the swing! Although we lost by 28 shots, we won 33 of the 72 ends played showing that when we won an end, it was with small numbers but when we lost one, we lost it big! It was good to see Sue Pears making her debut for the club and may there be many more. It was also an opportunity for Roz & Ray to participate as they spilt the 18 ends between them.
