The committee has chosen Blind Veterans UK (nee St Dunstan's) as our nominated charity for 2018 in recognition to the support it has provided for a number of our members. Events will take place throughout the year to raise money for the charity and there will be collecting tins in the clubhouse for those who wish to "lighten their pockets and purses" from time to time.
Blind Veterans UK was founded in 1915 as St. Dunstan’s to help service men and women left blinded and dependent by the First World War.
Their aim was, and still is, to help members live as independently as they can and give them confidence and skills for life.
Visually-impaired veterans can come to the centre for their initial visit and assessment and is inclusive to their families.
A centre located in Brighton provides holidays, respite, residential and nursing care. As well as helping with fitness and mobility, they give veterans with sight loss the skills they need to live an independent life.
The Brighton centre has all the facilities our blind veteran’s needs, including an IT suite, art and craft workshop, gym, swimming pool and other sports and recreation facilities.
While most of the 85 bedrooms are for short-term visitors, some are permanent homes for people who need the support, comfort and security of a nursing and residential care home.
They are registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
