Downsman Bowls Club Update - August 2023
Two members of our club, Jono Dalton and Jo Streeter have been successful in county competitions and have reached the National Finals being held at Leamington later in August; Jono winning the over 55’s knockout and Jo coming runner-up in the 2 wood competition.
Congratulations to them both, I am sure they will do themselves and the club proud.
In addition, July & August the club has also been extremely successful in other external competitions and events in addition to Jono and Jo.
Handcross Invitation – this a one-day competition which we won this year with a team consisting of Colin, Dave, Bob and Graham. See photo in photo galleries
West Hoathly invitation - this a one-day competition at which we only just lost the final against Burgess Hill, with a team consisting of Trish, Roz and Tony. See photo in photo galleries
Tom Francis Knockout – this is a double 4’s competition run by the mid Sussex league and we played the final against Southwater, hosted by Hurstpierpoint and we won it for the very first time – congrats to Jo, Steve, Derick, , Del, Trish, Dave, Chris and Jono winning by 20 shots overall, but not forgetting Peter, Colin and Carol for their involvement in the earlier rounds. Stewart Oxley – this is a 4’s competition run by Balcombe BC (for over 80 years) which we won for the first time beating West Hoathly in the semi-final and Burgess Hill in the final, congrats to Jo, Steve, Bob & Graham, plus Roz and Tony for their involvement in the earlier rounds. Lindfield Triples – a team of Derick, Colin and Dave won through a number of matches over a one-week period to just lose out in the final against Burgess Hill – great effort.
Crawley Pairs – this a knockout competition run by Popes Mead and Colin & Dave have reached the final against a team from Popes Mead having beaten another Downsman team (Dave & Graham) in the semi-final.
Up and Coming Events
Our club Finals Weekend is on the 2nd & 3rd of September and will feature some new bowlers as well as our more experienced ones; it looks to be a very competitive weekend. So come along and support friend and fellow bowlers.
